Looks Can Truly be Deceiving
How much control do you think you have about how people perceive you?
I am actually very disappointed in myself. I thought that the first lockdown would provide me with all the time and opportunity to actually be more diligent with writing — but apparently, even with ideal conditions, I haven’t completed a single article since my last one, “Step Into My Office… Well, My Bedroom!”, in July (this is a shameless plug, not a coy invitation into my room — which would, of course, be grossly inappropriate on this platform 😈).
Not too long ago, I was sat having dinner with a new colleague of mine (I’m the new one, not him) and we were initially speaking about glasses, and how the sheer presence of them on the face of a normal-looking person, increases our perception of their intelligence. So, I did two things: 1) I had a good think about all of the non-verbal cues we take from people and how we translate them into some form of non-intentional judgmental conclusion about them, and hence, we have an article, and 2) I bought myself some non-prescription reading glasses, ‘cos who doesn't want to be seen as more intelligent off the bat?!
